Paper Into Pixels.

The snowboard magazine industry has taken a battering the last few seasons, with advertisers having less money to spend, dollars are being taken away from print. What we don’t want to forget is that if we don’t support the magazines behind the industry, then the wheels of snowboarding will fall off. Where will your team rider’s photographs get published and where will brands advertise to their consumer? How will resorts tell customers about what is new for this season? How can you plan your next trip, if you don’t read the article about riding in Japan?

The Internet is obviously where the market is moving and has been a big kick in the guts for most magazines. News, stories and photographs that you once would have once waited for months for are now instantaneous. Consumers are now getting so much more online, instantly and with little cost. With all this talk of tablets and Ipads, the next challenge for the snowboard magazine industry is to harness the analogue ideas into the digital world. Whatever happens, nothing online will ever compare to the experience of flipping the fresh pages of a magazine, smelling the ink and feeling the paper stock between your fingers. Magazines will never die, they will just become an art form.

Camber and rocker shook up the design of snowboards this last few seasons, now the challenge for the industry is to see who can translate paper into pixels and ride the storm as more readers move online and print becomes art.

Look Back To Go Forward

Many say you need to respect where you came from, before you can succeed in moving forward. Maybe this is what Nike Snowboarding is thinking with it's support of the Aries2010 project.

The Aries2010 project was launched over the weekend at The Boardroom in Vancouver, and was the brain child of snowboard photographer and head guy at Nemo, Trevor Graves.

Basically it is a snowboarding time capsule, so that we as snowboarders don't forget the past, while being able to tell future generations about the good old days.

Tim Peare is following the Forum crew around as they put together another shred flick. In this mini clip he shows how handy Nic Sauve is with a hammer and nails, while also showing how slack the rest of his buddies are.

An Olympic Debate BBQ

The Frends crew have gotten themselves a new You Tube channel thanks to some AMP Energy dollars. The video production is a little more polished than many of the previous Frends clips, and you get the feeling that this is all building up to something, especially this oh so casual Olympic debate clip.

See It From Our P.O.V

The guys over at engadget have done a review of the new GoProHD helmet camera or point of view (P.O.V) camera as well as a head to head battle between it and the Contour HD. Unfortunately it doesn't feature any snowboarding but will give you a good idea if you are in the market for one of these cameras which can provide a great second angle or ego boosting Facebook clips.
